The People’s Choice voting will take place through Wednesday, Aug. 16. Everyone who votes for the People’s Choice, even after Aug. 16, is eligible to win a $500 gift certificate to Franz Nursery in Hamilton.
The homes are open 1 to 7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends. Passport books, which include directions and tickets, are $6 each and children under 12 are admitted free. Books may be purchased at any of the homes or at Scott’s Foods in Angola, Kendallville and Auburn.

Orland to celebrate Vermont Settlement Festival
Orland, Ind.-A primitive village, a parade featuring the Great American Clydesdales, children’s games, musical entertainment and a mud volleyball tournament highlight the annual Vermont Settlement Festival July 29 and 30.
The festival will feature arts and crafts both days, along with the authentic primitive village.
The 15th Annual Fawn River Run and Car Show runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Registration is $7 and trophies will be awarded in several categories.
The parade begins 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by musical entertainment at the Orland Town Park. Also at 11 a.m. at the primitive village, ladies will take part in an iron skillet toss. Saturday closes with a performance by the Freak Brothers from 1 to 4 p.m.
On Sunday, mud volleyball tournament registration opens at 9 a.m. Musical entertainment includes Spike and the Bulldogs between 2:30 and 5 p.m. The pedal pull for children ages three and up starts at noon.
All events take place at the Orland Town Park, off State Road 327. There is free parking and admission. Orland, which was founded in 1834, is the oldest settlement in Steuben County.

Ashley-Hudson hosts annual festival
Ashley and Hudson, Ind.-Family fun is in store at the Ashley-Hudson Festival Saturday, Aug. 5.
The day kicks off with a pancake and sausage breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. at the Hudson Fire Hall. At 11 a.m. the parade begins in Hudson and ends in Ashley.
Food, fun and games for children of all ages begin at 1 p.m. at the Ashley Town Park, along with craft booths, clowns, a moonwalk and other games.
Other highlights include a 2K walk and 5K run, a pet and bike parade, country singer Linda Lee, the Midwest Express Band and fireworks at dusk.
The festival is sponsored by the Ashley-Hudson Chamber of Commerce.
On Friday, Aug. 4, there will be a blue light parade through both towns at dusk.
