Junior Achievement hosting Pro-Am Invitational

Angola, Ind.-Golf professionals from the Futures Tour, LPGA Tour and the Women’s U.S. Open will be playing in the Fourth Annual Pro-Am Invitational at Glendarin Hills Golf Club on Tuesday, June 19. All proceeds will benefit Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana.

Individual entry is $250 per person, which includes the tournament, golf clinic, attendance at a cocktail reception and awards banquet, drink tickets and a thank-you gift. The cost per foursome is $1,300 and includes four tournament entries, two tee markers, the golf clinic, attendance at the reception and banquet, sponsor listing in the program, drink tickets and player thank you gifts.

Glendarin Hills is located at 3333 Glendarin Way, just east of the intersection of State Road 127 and County Road 200 West in Angola. Glendarin Hills sits on 450 acres of sloping terrain and features 18 unique holes along with five sets of tee boxes, ranging from 5,000 to 7,100 yards in length.

The event kicks off with a cocktail reception at Glendarin Hills on Monday, June 18 at 7 p.m. The golf clinic begins June 19 at noon, followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The awards banquet follows the tournament. Non-golfing guests are welcome at both the reception and banquet for an additional fee. The deadline for entry is June 8.

Buffalo preserve hosting Spring Rendezvous

Fremont, Ind.-Wild Winds Buffalo Preserve will host a Spring Rendezvous with calf viewing Saturday and Sunday, June 2 and 3.

This spring, dozens of buffalo will give birth to calves on the 400-acre preserve. Admission is free to the Rendezvous and preserve tours are $8 for adults and $5 per child under 12. Rendezvous hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. The 1840s encampment features fur traders, blanket traders and home-made crafts. Trade goods will be available for purchase and a buffalo lunch will be served. Frozen buffalo meat also is sold in the gift shop.

Vintage electric boat takes Lake James visitors back in time

Angola, Ind.-Pokagon State Park visitors can step back in time 100 years when they tour Lake James on a 30-foot vintage electric boat.

The “Lonidaw” is a replica of a 1902 model built by Elco and seats 14 passengers. Guests are taken on a 45-minute leisurely tour of the first basin of Lake James where they hear the history of the lake and the 1,260-acre state park.

The boat launches from the shores of Lake James seven days a week at 9 and 10 a.m. and 6 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for children under 12 and may be purchased at the boat house in front of the Potawatomi Inn. Tours run daily Memorial Day through Labor Day, weather permitting.

Life vests will be provided and guests will hear a short safety presentation before boarding the boat.

Pokagon State Park is located in the extreme northeast corner of Indiana, just south of the intersection of Interstate 69 and Interstate 80/90 (the Indiana Toll Road.) A $4 entrance fee for Indiana visitors is charged Monday-Thursday and $5 Friday-Sunday and holidays. The fee for out-of-state visitors seven days a week is $7 at the front gate.

Hamilton site of town-wide garage sales

Hamilton, Ind.-Bargain shoppers can hunt for treasures at the annual town-wide garage sales on Saturday, June 9, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

More than 75 individual sales will be held throughout the northeastern Indiana town of Hamilton and around Ball and Hamilton lakes. Maps of the sales are available in front of the fire hall, one block south of the four-way stop.
