With 101 lakes and Indiana’s most beautiful state park, Northern Indiana Lakes Country offers year-round recreational opportunities. The state’s only refrigerated toboggan slide is open weekends at Pokagon State Park the day after Thanksgiving through the end of February. The park also offers hiking trails, guided horseback trails, two beaches, boat rental, bike rental and an interpretive nature center. Visit two wineries and take an open-air vehicle tour of the 400-acre buffalo preserve. Bag some bargains at the outlet mall then enjoy a movie at one of downtown Angola’s vintage movie theaters.
Pokagon State Park, nestled on the shores of Lake James, is a picturesque 1,260-acre park nestled in extreme northeast Indiana complete with hiking trails, beaches, an interpretive nature center, cross country skiing, boat rental and guided horse rides.
Other highlights include: Lake James tour-Take a tour of Indiana’s third largest natural lake on the 1902 Electric Fantail Launch replica “Lonidaw” The tour guide on this relaxing 45-minute ride tells tales of the park and Lake James.
Pokagon is also home to the state's only refrigerated toboggan. Open weekends the day after Thanksgiving through the last weekend in February, the toboggan is a great family activity. Toboggans rent for $10 per hour and hold up to four people.
