Pokagon State Park
Pokagon State Park, nestled on the shores of Lake James, is a picturesque 1,260-acre park nestled in extreme northeast Indiana complete with hiking trails, beaches, an interpretive nature center, cross country skiing, boat rental and guided horse rides.
Pokagon is also home to the state's only refrigerated toboggan. Open weekends the day after Thanksgiving through the last weekend in February, the toboggan is a great family activity. Toboggans rent for $13 per hour and hold up to four people. Potawatomi Inn, the 138-room hotel, offers two restaurants, library, cabin suites, gift shop and indoor pool.
The newly-opened Trine State Recreation Area is also a part of Pokagon State Park. The 186 acres are steeped in natural and cultural history. No private boats are allowed but boat rentals are available. Fishing is allowed from rented boats or the pier. Easy to moderate trails offer hiking opportunities and when there's enough snow, a large sledding hill is open. Family cabins plus the Wild Turkey Shelter are available to rent. The entrance fee into Pokagon State Park is $7 per Indiana car and $9 per out-of-state car.
